Artificial Skin Models

Existing Artificial Skin Models
  • OECD Test Guideline Listed Model
  • Safety evaluation of substances by observing simple skin irritation and toxicity reactions to chemicals
  • Also used for wound healing, skin hydration, and sun protection tests
Artificial skin model developed by POSTECH
  • Developed an integrated full-layer skin model including epidermis, dermis, and fat layer
  • Successful in simulating vascularized and perfused skin tissue and modeling diseases such as diabetic skin
Areas of corporate support through this project
  • Artificial skin model using epidermal melanocyte stem cells: skin whitening/ pigmentation related research
  • Artificial skin model utilizing dermal layer hair follicle stem cells
  • Modeling of skin aging and hair loss diseases through stem cell growth regulation
Items of Corporate Support
  • Animal substitution test evaluation of cosmetic quality, efficacy, and safety

Artificial Lung Model

Existing artificial lung models
  • Utilized for respiratory toxicity assessment
  • Utilized to study virus attachment and viral replication mechanisms inside the simple respiratory tract
POSTECH-developed artificial lung model
  • Development of mass-produced respiratory mucosal tissue models
  • Developed a vascularized, perfused respiratory model and performed immune cell co-cultures
  • Utilized as a validation model for viral infection
Areas of corporate support through this project
  • Respiratory infectious disease model through co-culture of immune cells
  • Testing drugs for lung diseases (such as pulmonary fibrosis) and lung cancer
Items of corporate support
  • Drug performance testing and safety evaluation
  • Patient-specific drug efficacy evaluation
  • Biomaterial testing, functional evaluation
